Replacing the nFEP foil

There are many kinds and types of printers on the market, however, changing the film is quite similar every time. The following tutorial is specifically about the  Anycubic Photon Mono X printer.

Replacement is an important part of printing on SLA printers, either in case of damage or after long-term printing.

We will prepare all the things needed for the exchange:

We take out the tray from the printer:

    • ATTENTION! Resin must not drip on the display!
    • Don't forget to use protective equipment such as glasses and gloves.
    • The first step is:
  • Remove the bed and clean it from the resin using alcohol (you can also use IPA , but alcohol is more suitable in this case.
  • Clean the bed holder.
  • Unscrew the tray and filter the remaining resin through the filter into the bottle.
  • The tray can be sprayed/ poured with alcohol (it is not recommended to use alcohol during normal use ( the foil will start to turn grey), but we will be putting a new foil so we don't mind damaging it, which we will throw away.
  • Clean the bathtub as best as possible so that we can reach it with our hands and put it aside to dry.
  • In the meantime, clean the display with alcohol and a cloth, or you can use any display cleaner.

We move to the table and go to take out the foil

  • We turn the bathtub upside down.
  • We loosen all the screws.
  • We take out the frame with the old foil.
  • Clean the frame with alcohol.
  • We remove all other screws.
  • We disassemble the frame and take out the foil and again clean the frame from all sides.

Now we put a new foil

  • We remove the protection from the foil (from both sides).
  • Place the foil on the bottom frame.
  • Carefully attach the second part of the frame.
  • We make a hole through the hole on the screw so that it can be screwed in well.
  • We always tighten crosswise.

Frame back in the tub

  • Do not damage the foil , any scratch can be fatal!
  • We put the whole frame with the foil in the tub from the bottom.
  • We will again make holes in the foil through the holes for the screws.
  • We tighten the screws and again crosswise and gradually (this way the foil is tightened symmetrically).
  • After tightening, we only use IPA to clean the foil from both sides and can return it to the printer.
